PMI at Work on New Certifications for 2008

The Project Management Institute (PMI), vendors of the successful Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, have announced that they are creating two new credentials, one relating to project risk and the other for project scheduling. Both of these are still in the research stages, but we will bring you news as it becomes available.

CompTIA PDI+ Exam Live

The exam for CompTIA's printing and document imaging certification, PDIA+, launched January 7th, 2008 and is now available in final form. Target candidates for CompTIA PDI+ certification are service technicians, support technicians, help desk staff and other IT professionals responsible for the installation, connectivity, maintenance, repair and support of printing and document imaging devices. Objectives can be found on CompTIA's Web site, although you will have to create an account before you can view them.

Latest Certification Counts

We've been checking up on the progress of various certification programs lately to see just how many certified IT pros are out there. Microsoft, which of course holds the lead, has now awarded well over 2 million certifications worldwide. Sun Microsystems is looking forward to handing out its 500,000th certification in the near future. There are currently over 70,000 CompTIA A+ certified technicians, 425,000 Oracle Certified Professionals, 25,000 Red Hat Certified Engineers (RHCEs), and 15,600 Cisco Certified Internetwork Engineers (CCIEs), among others.
