Microsoft Announces Technology Education Initiative

Microsoft has announced a new initiative named Elevate America that will address the current economic crisis by providing an array of information technology (IT) training that will give workers free and low cost access to a broader array of jobs. According to Microsoft, more than half of jobs today require some IT proficiency, and that number is expected to grow to 77% in the next decade. These jobs are not limited to the information technology field, but include health care, construction, and virtually every job sector. To address this need, Elevate America promises to provide technology training to up to two million people over the next three years, and as part of this program Microsoft promises to provide one million Microsoft Learning vouchers and vouchers for select certification exams. New Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services 5 Exam

Sun Microsystems recently released the exam for Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services 5 (exam CX 310 230). The exam consists of 69 multiple choice and drag and drop questions, contains 69 questions, and has a passing score of 68% (47 correct answers) and a time limit of 150 minutes. A full list of objectives can be found on the Sun Web site. The previous exam was for the Java 2, Enterprise Edition platform (exam CX 310 220), and is still available to certification candidates. These exams cost $300 each.

Oracle to Release PeopleSoft 9 Certification March 5

Oracle University will be launching its new PeopleSoft Enterprise 9 Financial Management, General Ledger Certified Consultant (OCE) credential. This is for individuals who wish to demonstrate proficiency in implementation in key areas such as Oracle general ledger financial controls, journal entry creation and setup, period close and financial reporting. There is one required exam, which costs $195. There is a time limit of 120 minutes to answer 80 questions, 60 of which must be answered correctly to pass. Full exam objectives and training options for this certification are posted on the Oracle website.

Oracle Beta Exams Extended

In other Oracle certification news, a half dozen current beta exams have had their beta deadlines extended. The Administration II and Performance Tuning exams for Oracle Database 11g are now extended to June 30, 2009, as is Oracle E Business Suite R12: System Administration beta. Several other beta exams have been extended to April 15, 2009, including the exams for Oracle EBS R12: General Ledger and Payables Fundamentals, General Ledger and Receivables Fundamentals, and Advanced Supply Chain Planning. These beta exams cost only $50 each.

HP Consolidates Training and Certification Resources

Hewlett-Packard recently consolidated multiple training and certification websites and applications into a single learning management system called "The Learning Center." Anyone pursuing HP technical training or certification can use The Learning Center to search for training curricula, certifications or service qualifications; to register for courses and exams; and to view or download web-based training courses. If you have a training and/or certification history with the HP Certified Professional Program, your transcript has been migrated to this new system.

To access The Learning Center, you need to establish a partner portal account and an HP Learner ID. Follow the easy steps outlined on the HP partner portal to get setup to use The Learning Center.
